About the Job:
Grand MFI S.C is seeking to hire CEO to be based in Addis Ababa. He/she will be directly responsible to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization; give direction and leadership towards the achievement of the organization’s vision, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives; represent the organization and strive to build a positive image in all relevant media.
We are forming a financial institution that will provide financial services to Ethiopian rural and urban poor entrepreneurs, women, group and individual business operators, farmers and households to support them reach their individual, family and socioeconomic goals.
Based in Addis Ababa, the incumbent will serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the MFI, reporting to its Board as well as to Grand MFI S.C’s Organizing Committee Chairperson on a project basis. He/she will be in charge of the overall management of the institution, including providing clear leadership and direction to the institution, ensuring solid operating and financial performance, recruiting and developing the talent needed to accomplish high performance standards and overseeing new operational systems and procedures. He/she will have primary responsibility for achieving the ambitious growth strategy developed by the stakeholders, and for positioning the MFI as a leading provider of high quality financial services to the poor. This will include assuming leadership in four key areas:
Overall management and governance
Strategic planning and business development
Human resource and talent development
Communications and external stakeholder relations
Licensing the MFI
Startup activities including preparation of manuals, policies and procedures and all relevant documentation
Organize logistics, branch openings and operations
Financial and Risk Management
Strategic and Operational Management
Community and Public Relations
Serve as a member of the Senior Management.
Implement the strategic goals of the organization through day-to-day management of operations at the financial institution.
Oversee the following: Branch Operations, Business Development (sales) and Credit Controls
Plan and implement the expansion of Grand MFI S.C both in terms of new products and services that can be offered as well as geographies of operation
Perform supervisory duties and coordinate with the staff in all related areas of the department
Maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of branch operations and distribution network
Participate in and at times, lead strategy, policy formulation, procedure and MIS development and training
Ensure that the company achieves agreed profitability levels, while remaining committed to client protection and social performance
Overall Management and Governance
Serve as ex officio non-voting member of Board of Directors
Execute the policy decisions of the Board
Manage the day-to-day operations of the institution by providing clear leadership and guidance to all functions of the institution, including Finance, Operations, Administration, Special Projects, HR, IT.
Cultivate culture of cooperation and high performance
Drive organizational performance, both quantitative and qualitative; achieve business plan targets
Ensure effective collaboration with Grand MFI team under the Management and Technical Assistance Services Agreement
Uphold standards of risk management at all levels and ensure effective supervisory control and management review
Sustain the institution’s social mission and its dedication to financial inclusion
Strategic Planning and Business Development
Develop annual and longer term plans and budgets, incorporating input from the different departments for approval by the Board
Oversee the implementation of budgets and strategic plans, including oversight of fundraising
Set financial and operational performance targets for all key operating units
Set employee performance standards required to achieve short and long term objectives and goals
Lead the MFI’s expansion into new geographic areas of Ethiopia
Human Resource and Talent Development
Build a strong and effective senior management team
Establish an effective and competent participatory management style
Implement performance management system for senior management team
Oversee and support the development and implementation of effective HR policies and procedures for recruitment, training and talent development
Motivate all staff and ensure that staff is dedicated to the mission of the MFI
Mentor and coach senior management
Communications and External Stakeholder Relations
Build the MFI’s reputation as a company committed to excellent client services, both internally and externally
Maintain solid relations with shareholders and external parties, the Government of Ethiopia, investors, and other business partners
Ensure quality information flow to investors, regulators and other stakeholders as relevant
Qualifications and experience:
Minimum of Bachelor degree in Banking/Finance/Business Administration/Economics/ Accounting/Management or related fields.
At least ten years working experience, out of which five years in a senior leadership Position;
Clear understanding and experience of micro-finance industry and retail banking, agent banking, digital finance, and mobile banking;
Determined personality with the ability to motivate and manage team;
Experience in leading an extended multi branch network;
Capability and willingness to lead the organization forward; and
